Produktserie: Safari from Lunugamvehera
The Lunugamvehera National Park is located about 261 km Southwest of Colombo closer to the port city of Hambantota. Opened as a safe haven for the wildlife of the area and as a catchment area of the Lunugamvehera Reservoir, the park serves as a main corridor for elephants to migrate between the Udawalawe National Park and the Yala National Park. Covering an area of about 23000 hectares the Lunugamvehera Park consists of scrubland and grassland as well as abandoned chena lands which were left during the civil war. The Park also is home to various species of fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals while many of them van be seen if you book a private safari with Lakpura. Belonging to the dry zone of Sri Lanka, the park is usually exposed to the annual drought but relieved by the Southwestern monsoon rains that are a vital part for its habitat.
