The largest city in the Southern part of Sri Lanka, Galle is a coastal town that was occupied by the Portuguese and Dutch from the 16th - 18th century. The city is popularly known for the Galle Fort which is a World Heritage Site and also the largest remaining fort in Asia built by Europeans. Other than the gorgeous beaches that surround the city, other famous landmarks in Galle consists of the Natural Harbour, the National Maritime Museum , St. Mary’s Cathedral and the many old buildings that are found within the massive ramparts of the Fort.
